Siopao Royalty: Roberto’s Queen Siopao

In Iloilo City, one reigns supreme when it comes to siopao. What else but Roberto’s?

One is greeted by long lines in the take out counter since they sell hundreds (and maybe even thousands) of siopao a day — not including sit-down diners. I decide to be one of them. One day after rehearsals, I decided along with my theater buddies that I want meat in my system. And luckily, Roberto’s is within walking distance from our studio. We enter amidst the crowd & settle in our seat (sit-in diners don’t have to line up). A little difficult to get a waiter but we all got our fix of the (royal bugles) Queen Siopao.

Warning: not your regular, run of the mill siopao! At Php65, it’s chockful of meat and is three times larger than the usual siopao. I take a bite & taste bacon, chinese sausage, pork adobo & a burst of many flavours. Definitely sated my hunger.

A delight for the hungry one but may be a little sum-od as you keep digging in. Perfect with an ice cold glass of softdrink (Php27) to chase the hunger away with every bite. Check it out for snacktime, kids. Tip: you go up to the counter to pay the bill, don’t ask a waiter lest they give you “the look.” And sorry for the blurry photos, I used my iPod for this entry.

Roberto’s is located at Calle Real at downtown Iloilo. You can’t miss it.

Hey there! I didn’t know they have P25 burgers! I wonder if they’re as good as their siopao. 🙂

I haven’t tried them either. Got a little tip that Love & Kisses’burgers were good too.

Went to Love & Kisses one time, instead of getting pizza and burgers, we had rice and grilled pork! They’re also yummy. Thanks! 🙂
