Nothing But Desserts: Macarons in Iloilo!

And I don’t think I’m the only one raring for these in our humble city a.k.a. The Uma Republic.

I’ve blogged about Bizu & Felicia’s & ranted at the utter confusion of people between French macarons & coconut macaroons. Finally, Iloilo will somehow have a taste of this confectionery & know the freaking difference.

A little background: Macaron de Paris or French Macarons are airy, small sandwiched cookies made of beaten egg whites –more of meringues with an almond paste. Ganache cream or jam are mostly the fillings in between these light cookies. Usually cute & colorful, these little babies remind me of rainbows & carousels. At times I find them too sweet, but I always look for new flavours to try & that peanut aftertaste.

Now, macarons can be found at The Avenue’s Nothing But Desserts for Php30 (special thanks to a Miss Patricia Espinosa who told me) . Today was exceptionally cold, so I bought a Spanish chocolate (Php60) to have along with my pastries. My companion on the other hand bought a Latte (Php90).

I asked for one of each flavor & got the following (flavours are according to my tastebuds’ recognition by the way):

  • White – Most likely almond flavor with a chocolate filling
  • Yellow – A lemon flavoured (didn’t find this a nice flavor for a pastry though)
  • Dark Pink – A strawberry cookie & coffee flavoured filling (my ulitmate favourite among the four)
  • Light Pink – A raspberry/cherry flavoured pastry

The sizes of the pastries were a tad too small for Php30 & were quite crumbly. But nevertheless, I find the flavours of good combinations. The macarons crumble delicately & deliciously into my mouth. L’amour at first bite.

Agree. They really are too tiny (say this in dwende voice) for P30, non? Felicia’s sells for almost the same price (correct?) but their macarons are um, normal-looking.
Is the buzz true – Dulgies also makes macarons???
But ya, thanks jill. Will check it out really soon. =)

Php35 at Felicia’s miss, and they are huge. Will try sniffing around at Dulgies!

Can’t wait to try NBD’s macarons! (Although they don’t look equally good as the ones from Bizu)
