Must Try Restaurant: Dapug Foodhaus

Visayan cuisine is something I have learned to love since I am, of course, Visayan. There is something deeply comforting about eating the food you virtually grew up with & still encounter even today. Out of all the restaurants along Diversion Road, one restaurant stays true to Visayan palate (and no, it’s not Ted’s Lapaz Batchoy). Nestled between Ace Hardware & Andok’s is Dapug Foodhaus, an establishment that serves Visayan, particularly Cebuano, cuisine. Dapug is Visayan for “cooking pot” & the food in this particular cooking pot is delicious. My friend Hannah Vasig owns the establishment & sad to say, I don’t get anything for free. Joke. Pero dala na ni pabati-bati, Nana.

Dapug just recently renovated its interiors & this as been a big improvement on its part. Not only is it more welcoming, the atmosphere is more airy and laid-back – perfect for a casual dining experience. Upstairs is a function room which is air conditioned and is available for private gatherings and such. And just outside is a carwash – perfect for hungry customers who have uh, dirty cars.

The specialty of the house is Sizzling Pochero. I know, I know. I was confused the first time too since we normally think of pochero served in a soup. But Dapug begs to differ from the rest and serves their pochero in a sizzling plate. I have only tried the dish good for one, but they have larger servings for bigger groups. My ultimate favourite is the sizzling pochero with rice meal that costs P80 only. Add your drink for P20 and you have P100 worth of a full tummy! Definitely worth every peso since the meat is big enough. Other dishes include chicken barbecue, sisig & several more Visayan meals that satisfy any starving soul, be they Visayan or not.

Dapug is located along Diversion Road & is open around lunchtime till dinner time. I shall ask for Dapug’s contact number.
